This is a new, full-time, on-staff position. You'll regularly cover some of the most significant issues in ''NorCal.''

It's also a thrilling gig: On one day, you might be at the state's Capitol, reporting on lawmakers who make critical decisions about our future. Later, you may find yourself on the front lines of a wildfire. This routine is very much a reality in the Sacramento region.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable reporting for different platforms: shining as a radio reporter, but also producing smart content for digital. Are you good at communicating things in clear and compelling ways - on tight deadlines, no less? We want you to apply.

We also are looking for a reporter whose instincts are to ask: Who is not included in this story but should be? Are there equity issues at play here? What audiences need this information?

If you are a multilingual journalist or fluent in Spanish, that will help you in this role. We want to deliver for audiences who traditionally are underserved by public media.

We're looking for journalists at any and all points in their careers, but the salary range is commensurate with what a reporter might earn at the beginning of the profession.

The focus will be on daily content, with occasional opportunities for enterprise and feature work. Some weeks, you may deliver three or four stories for our website. Others, you could file a broadcast story every day. You'll often be the first reporter on breaking news for digital and broadcast.

Editors and producers will be there with everything from praise and helpful feedback to opportunities for self-care and urging time-off to recharge.

Your work will reach millions of Californians, including via our statewide network of more than five dozen public-media frequencies and websites. Sometimes you'll also appear on NPR or NPR.org.

This position will be based in California's capital city of Sacramento. CapRadio acknowledges that relocating during the pandemic is not something that occurs overnight. We'll work with you.

Position Responsibilities:

Reports and writes daily content for digital audiences, including regular web stories. You will be expected to file multiple stories each week, of varying lengths and scope of reporting. Reports, writes and produces daily content for broadcast. This will include spot packages, two-way interviews and more. Enterprises, reports, writes and produces the occasional feature-length audio story. Reports and writes the occasional long-form web story. Files content for CapRadio's statewide news network Appears on CapRadio's talk programs, including Insight Files content for NPR and other national outlets as needed Collaborates with colleagues at regular meetings Participates in on-air fundraising and other CapRadio fundraising activities Comes to work each day with a positive attitude, a willingness to collaborate and learn and a healthy sense of humor

Essential Skills and Experience:

Some journalism experience or education preferred, but not required. If you have the skills and ability to execute the job, then we will consider your application. We're looking for candidates who listen-first, especially with colleagues. We want you to seek understanding and engage the world with humility and thoughtfulness. There are some skills and experiences that we will prioritize: Newsroom experience will give you a leg-up in the process, especially if you have been part of a public radio station. However, do not be discouraged if this is not the case. Are you multilingual? If so, we will embrace your ability to engage non-English-speaking communities. Yes, our name is CapRadio. But we value experiences in digital reporting and reporting for non-broadcast platforms. We are true believers in public radio and independent, nonprofit journalism. We hope that you're a big fan of NPR and also value clear-headed news reporting and programming.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

Familiarity with the public radio system and/or Cap Radio. Experience producing on digital audio workstations. On-Air experience. Salary

The annual salary range for this position aligns with that of our entry-level reporter positions, running from $55,000 to $60,000 a year. CapRadio also offers:
